How Do I Backup Games to An External Hard Drive?

I usually keep my Steam games on an external hard drive. However, my laptop suffered an unfortunate disaster a few days ago, resulting in all the data being lost. I have restored them, though, but some of the games I installed on my external hard drive are missing. Can you imagine how shocked I was?  Apparently, Steam thinks it's a really cool idea to install the save files to the computer itself, regardless of where you install the game. Thanks, Steam. Is there any way to back up games to an external hard drive without Steam? I want to avoid this situation.

Creating a backup for games to an external hard drive is a great way to safeguard your game data security when the hard drive fails or the computer crashes.

If the Steam backup feature can't satisfy your needs, and you are looking for an alternative, you can try a third-party program, EaseUS Todo Backup Free, which can 100% solve your need. It is a practical backup utility that supports files, folders, disks, system backup, and App data backup. With it, you can back up your game files and configurations to an external hard drive with easy clicks.

EaseUS Todo Backup is an all-in-one backup tool that owns multiple types of backup, such as scheduled backup, compressed backup, incremental backup, differential backup, etc. Download and use it to save your game files to any location you like:

  • Connect the external hard drive to your computer.
  • Launch EaseUS Todo Backup, and click "Create a backup".
  • Click "File," locate and select your game files as the backup source.
  • Choose the external device as the backup destination, and click "Backup now" to start.

The time it takes depends on how much data your game saves. Wait for the cloning process to finish, and unplug the external hard drive.

You can use EaseUS Todo Backup to restore the backup files with three simple steps when needed. You don't need to worry about downtime because it will retrieve data at a breakneck speed.
