How to Upgrade SSD in Surface Pro X?

I have a Surface Pro X with 256GB of storage, and as I use it more and more, I simply don't have enough memory, so I plan to upgrade the SSD in Surface Pro X. What should I do? Any suggestions will be great!

It's not hard to upgrade SSD in Surface Pro X, but it's not that simple either. The operation requires you to use some tools to disassemble the PC in order to get the purpose you want to replace the SSD. If you are more confident in your manual abilities, then you can prepare the necessary tools and items according to the list I gave below.

  • Larger capacity SSDs
  • Torx T3 screwdriver
  • SIM Tool (Surface Pro X offers)
  • Clone Software

Since your new SSD does not store any data and does not have an operating system, you will need to use professional cloning software such as EaseUS Disk Copy to clone your Windows system to the new SSD before you can boot your computer from it.

EaseUS Disk Copy is a powerful cloning tool trusted by users today. You can download the tool for free by clicking on the blue button below and quickly complete the preparation work.

After you have prepared all the tools and finished cloning, you can now follow the steps below to perform the SSD replacement.

Step 1. Power off Surface Pro X.

Step 2. Use the SIM tool that came with your computer to open the rear SIM/SSD panel under the stand.

Step 3. Use the T3 Torx screwdriver to unscrew the individual screws in the old SSD.

Step 4. Gently lift the old SSD at a slight angle and pull it out of the M.2 slot

Slide in the new SSD you prepared and secure it with the retention screws.
