Before starting a repair installation of Microsoft Windows XP, you must uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Internet Explorer 8 from the Windows XP-based computer. If a later version of Internet Explorer is still installed, Internet Explorer will not work after the repair is completed.

Therefore, you need to uninstall the later version of Internet Explorer from your PC, and then install Internet Explorer 6. Now, you can make a Windows XP recovery disk from USB by following the steps below:

  • Start up your computer and click Start located in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
  • Select the Accessories folder and click on System Tools.
  • Double-click the Backup icon and choose Advanced Mode located at the top of the window.
  • Then click Automated Recovery Wizard and open the program.
  • Enter a blank CD into the CD-ROM tray and click Next to create the recovery disk.
