Missing Unallocated Space After the Volume Shrink, How to Resolve?

I used the disk management tool to reduce the SSD size where Windows 10 is installed. I entered something like 70GB and hit the shrink button, but instead of the free space showing up so I could make a new partition, it simply vanished.

To solve this problem properly, you need to know the causes. Thus, I rounded up the main reasons below for your information:

  • File system error or system files lost
  • Corrupted drive
  • Malware and virus attack
  • Outdated hard drive driver

Many methods can apply to this case, including running a system file checker, using the CHKDSK command, and launching third-party partition resizing software. However, the CHKDSK command has many types of checking different hard drive errors. You can go through this article to learn how to utilize these commands as follows:

Fix 1. Run the Third-party Tool

Regarding the 3rd party that specializes in resizing partitions, EaseUS Partition Master is my top recommendation, as it has multiple helpful partition management tools.

Look at the quick steps here:

Step 1: Right-click the partition to downsize in the "Partition Manager" section and choose "Resize/Move."

Step 2: Hold your mouse to move the target partition's end or adjust the partition size in the box to shrink the partition size. Click "OK."

Step 3: Press the "Execute Task" button and click "Apply" to execute this operation.

Fix 2. Use the System File Checker

A system file checker can help you detect and repair corrupted or lost files. Follow the tutorial below:

Step 1: Write the "Windows+Q" in the search box to open it.

Step 2: Input CMD in the search bar.

Step 3: The system file checker's scanning process can be started by typing sfc/scannow.
