Fix Update Volume Could Not Be Mounted for the Target

I have an Intel i9 Macbook Pro, and since I have updated to macOS 13.3, I got this error message every time I attempt to update to macOS 13.3.1. It says, Please check your Internet connection and try again. How to fix this? I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Error messages like "the update volume could not be mounted for the target" or "the volume is not mounted" when updating to Monterey are common issues Mac users may face. These kinds of messages appear when your Macintosh HD is not mounted or corrupted.

You can first manually mount the volume in Disk Utility and install macOS Monterey again:

  • To open "Disk Utility" on your Mac, you should go to "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Disk Utility" or boot your Mac into Disk Utility.
  • Choose the volume you want to mount and select the "Mount" button.

You may receive problems like error 69888 when you mount your disk on a Mac. If you still receive this error message after these steps above, you can utilize the First Aid feature to rerun your whole process of updating like this:

  • Select the Disk Utility and press "Continue" to proceed
  • Choose "All Devices" from the drop-down menu
  • Select the storage devices you want to repair and choose the last volume to repair

If you find your files or data lost in this process, you can recover them like this with EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for Mac. This tool can work smoothly and quickly to recover your lost files, photos, documents, and whatever can be shown on its scanning result.
