What To Do After Installing New SSD in Laptop?

Just installed a second SSD (more powerful, M.2) SSD on my laptop when I had a SATA SSD already on my PC (where my OS is). I want to put OS on this M.2 SSD. What to do after installing the new SSD on my laptop?

Installing a new SSD will enhance the whole performance of your device and shorten laptop boot time. After installing, here are some steps you should take to make use of the new SSD effectively.

  • Step 1. Clone the operating system from the old drive to the new SSD

Running the operating system on the new SSD can improve the laptop's whole performance. Cloning the hard drive to the new SS will migrate all data from the old hard drive to the new SSD without reinstalling the operating system.

  • Step 2. Boot your laptop from the new cloned SSD.

After cloning, you need to boot your computer from the new cloned SSD in BIOS settings, and now all system-related files will be saved on the new SSD.

  • Step 3. Move frequently used files to the new SSD

You can manually transfer commonly used files to the SSD, including music, images, and documents. This will shorten the time it takes to access these files.

  • Step 4. Disable unnecessary services and startup programs

Your laptop's boot time and general performance can be sped up by turning off unused services and startup programs. To manage these, utilize the Activity Monitor in macOS or the Task Manager in Windows.

In conclusion, adding a new SSD will undoubtedly increase the speed and performance of your laptop. EaseUS Disk Copy makes data migration easier and aids in transferring all data to the new SSD.

With all the steps done, now you can run your laptop on the new SSD without any problem.
