Why Windows 10 Cannot Run CHKDSK Which Is Write Protected
When I started my computer, I was given a message saying Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. And I cannot boot into Safe mode. Without system restore points, I began to run the CHKDSK command. However, it gave me the error message reading Windows cannot run CHKDSK, which is write-protected. As a built-in Check Disk utility, CHKDSK can help fix disk errors or startup issues for PC computer users. However, in most cases, when you run CHKDSK via the Command Prompt after receiving the message saying Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically, CHKDSK will not run, and you will receive the error message reads:
- NTFS is a type of file system.
- The current drive cannot be locked.
Therefore, there are two reasons why you receive this error message as follows:
- The disk volume attribute has been set to read-only.
- The file system of the partition has been damaged or corrupted.
If you want to run CHKDSK again, removing write protection from the hard drive is suggested, which can help you eliminate this error.
